BASIC256 - Goto Command, Working with Labels
Before starting with the lesson, please have your BASIC-256 program ready. You can download BASIC-256 from Sourceforge.net for FREE.

This lesson will talk about the Goto command. Hmmm… sounds yummy right? Hehe. :P Goto (as in Go to) is a command in the BASIC programming language that allows you to jump to a particular line or procedure. This will enable the programmer to use the same program block or subroutine throughout the program code. Also the Goto command can let you create complex programs without necessarily creating redundant procedures.
In BASIC-256, the Goto command goes together with a with a Label. A Label is not really a command but a simple label to a line or simply like an address to a certain command. See the screenshot below for an example.

The Hello: line above is the label. No other words beside your own label should be in the same line. Labels must end with a colon “:”. You will know if you got your label right, when BASIC-256 changes the line from color black to blue.
What will happen when you run the program?
The example above is just a simple program using the label command. Let’s look below how it can be useful in a complex program example below.
Let’s try to play with the program above for a bit. What happens if you delete all the “goto nearend” and “nearend:” label? Will it have a syntax error? What if you pick 1,2,3 or 4 without the nearend label?
You can apply this Goto command to a lot of programs in the future. However, try to use this convenient command to a minimum because it can make a program hard to maintain if you need to re-edit the code in the future.

Grade 5 - Differences in various audio formats
In line with our lesson about inserting audio in OOo Impress, I want to share you a link talking about differences in audio formats available in the internet. Follow the link and read the article. It will help you understand what possible audio format that you can use, as well when to use that audio format.

WordPad
WordPad is a free text editor/word processing program included in most Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. It has more features than the text editor Notepad.
note: The numbers indicated correspond to the numbers below. Refer to the definition below to learn about the name for each label.
Parts of the WordPad Environment
1. Title Bar displays the name of the application and/or the name of the active document.
2. Menu bar displays the different menus. A menu is made up of several commands.
3. Command buttons contains buttons that allow you to minimize, maximize and exit the application.
4. Standard toolbar contains icons and buttons for frequently used Menu commands like “Cut, Copy and Paste”.
5. Formatting toolbar contains shortcut buttons for commonly used format menu commands such as font formats, and text position.
6. Ruler Help you position text or objects and let you set margins, tabs, and indents.
7. Status bar displays information about the document or selected command.
8. Workspace Area is where you enter and edit text in the document.
Scroll bar allows you to move the document in the window up or down.
BASIC KEYBOARD KEYS AND FUNCTIONS

1. Esc key is a shortcut key for closing the application.
2. A function key is a key on a computer keyboard which can be programmed to perform certain actions in an operating system or application program. On some keyboards/computers, function keys may have default actions, accessible on power-on.
3. Print screen (often abbreviated, such as Prt Scr, Print Scrn, or Prnt Scrn) is a key present on most computer keyboards, typically situated in the same section as the break and Scroll lock keys. Print screen is shared with SysRq. Under earlier command-line based operating systems, this caused an exact copy of the current screen output to be sent to the standard printer port, usually LPT1. In essence, whatever was currently on the screen when the key was pressed was printed.
4. Scroll Lock was intended to modify the behavior of the arrow keys. When the scroll lock mode is on, the arrow keys would scroll the contents of a text window instead of moving the cursor.
5. The tab key on a keyboard is used to advance the cursor to the next “tab stop”.
6. The caps lock is a key on a computer keyboard. Pressing it will set a keyboard mode in which typed letters are capitalized by default and in lower case when the shift key is pressed; the keyboard remains in this mode until caps lock is pressed again.
7. The shift key is a modifier key on a keyboard, used to type capital letters and other alternate “upper” characters. There are typically two shift keys, on the left and right sides of the row below the home row.
8. In computing, a Control key is a key which, when pressed in conjunction with another key, will perform a special operation.
9. Backspace is the keyboard key that originally pushed the typewriter carriage one position backwards, and in modern computer displays moves the cursor one position backwards, deletes the preceding character, and shifts back the text after it by one position.
Capabilities of the Computer
Grade 4. Last time, we defined what a computer is. In this next blog entry we will get to know what are the capabilities of the computer. Before we go on to the list of capabilities of the computer, we will define what is “Capability”. According to Answers.com, capability means, a talent or ability that has potential for development or use. In other words, any ability which can be useful and can be improved.
We use the computer like other machines, because it helps us in our tasks. How is the computer different from other machines? Why don’t you give me a list of capabilities and have it check here?
